Iconic Heritage
Lutron was founded by Ruth and Joel Spira in 1961. Together, the pair opened the doors to a company that set out to give the world "lighting to live by." Starting in the second bedroom of their small, New York apartment, the pair built a makeshift laboratory where they quickly realized that combining Joel's inventive and conceptual mind with Ruth's practicality made for a successful business that delivered aesthetics, world class technology, quality and services.

Over the years, Ruth and Joel took every opportunity to continue to revolutionize lighting. Inventing a series of firsts in dimmers, they made lighting a seamless part of people's lives. Their intelligent shade technology expanded their concept of lighting, giving people new ways to control both natural and electric light. Creating shade systems that worked in tandem with lighting controls, Ruth and Joel gave people total control over their environments.

Most LEDs are static, limited to a single color channel, which can feel flat and artificial, especially when dimmed. All Lumaris lighting is tunable, mixing at least two channels of color in order to deliver light that feels comfortable.
